Testing a new service with real users and partners before scaling

During the energy crisis, Peter Cederholm founded MyOpti in Antler’s founder programme: an app that shows households their electricity use regardless of supplier. Every step – problem, data, users and partners – was tested before anything was scaled.

01 / Context

The challenge

Many electricity customers find it hard to see and understand their consumption, and smaller grid and retail companies lack the resources to build their own apps. Customers don’t want to switch supplier just to get better information. Could a neutral, free app solve the problem for both sides – and would anyone use and pay for it?

02 / Delivery

Our approach

  • Problem and idea validation in Antler’s Nordic founder programme (2022), with sprints, business model tools and co-founder selection.
  • A market survey among potential users, and analysis of competitors and market size.
  • An agreement with Svenska kraftnät as an Ediel agent, to retrieve consumption data with the customer’s consent via BankID.
  • A business model where the app is free for users and energy companies, with premium services over time.
  • Letters of intent and a “MyOpti Lite” pilot with three local energy companies in 2023, with regular status meetings.
  • An application to Vinnova on solutions for reduced electricity use, with measurable goals for adoption and benefit.
